Scio is an Israeli company with offices in Jerusalem, Sydney and Chicago. The company is introducing an innovative software solution capable of significantly reducing companies’ expenses in contract administration. Scio’s Systems automatically loads written contracts into a unique representation that fully captures the contracts’ meaning. The software supports a wide range of high-value contract analytics extending from time- and performance- based alerts to internal and external compliance monitoring and 'what-if' analysis and simulation.
Founded in 2004, Scio is backed by Jerusalem Venture Partners, a leading Israeli venture capital fund with more than $680 million under management.
Management
Roy Manoff –
President and CEO. Roy
is an experienced executive and team leader with a proven record of
initiating, establishing and managing multinational ventures and
cooperation programs. Prior to founding Scio he led high-tech companies
from startup to profitability. He was CEO of Giga Systems, Terra
Supercomputing and MobileComm Communications. Roy served in the Israeli
Air Force (IAF), maintaining a flying career for over 25 years. As a
squadron commander, he has proven his leadership in intensely difficult
situations. In 1985, he was sent to Washington, D.C. as the Deputy
Israeli Air-Attaché. He established cooperation programs between
the IAF and the US Air Force, Navy and Army aviation as well as between
Israel and US defense companies. Colonel Manoff’s final assignment at
the IAF was to head the then-largest multi-service R&D and
Procurement Program of the IAF’s Engineering and Logistics Division.
As CEO and CFO of Tupai he secured the initial investment in Tupai
followed by securing funds and managing a multi-national consortium
under a Europe Community Information Society Technology program.
Roy holds a B.S. in
Electronic and Computer Engineering from the Ben Gurion University,
Israel and is a graduate of the Top Executive Training Program at Leon
Recanati Business School, Tel Aviv University.
Ronen Amit – VP
Customer and Strategic Partner Relations. Ronen
is an expert in the development of Man-Machine Interfaces (MMI) and in
the implementation and integration of comprehensive solutions into
complex organizations. Prior to co-founding Scio he created and led a
support team for the design, development and implementation of ESRI’s
(Redlands, CA) Geographic Information Systems (GIS) strategic products
worldwide. Ronen designed
and transformed Informi’s (Copenhagen, Denmark) software systems for
the Danish Royal Air force, the Danish Ministry of Environment and
others into fully operational systems and provided the ensuing customer
support. He developed and installed an Assets and Liabilities Management
System at a major Australian Bank using eCognition RAD.
Ronen
holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the Technion Institute of
Technology, Israel.
Samuel Manoff –
VP Engineering. Sam is a seasoned IT professional
with over 20 years of experience in software development and project
management. His expertise includes machine reasoning constraints
satisfaction, knowledge representation and mathematical optimization.
Prior to co-founding Scio, he was a senior member at IBM’s
Optimization Research Group Lab where he was awarded a number of patents
for developing state of the art optimization engines. Sam successfully
headed the design and development of advanced decision support software
systems in, among others, financial modeling (Switzerland), complex
scheduling (USA and UK), airline maintenance optimization and operation
control (IBM and Interactive Engineering - Australia), online train
monitoring and visualization system (Taiwan). He developed
Tupai’s Market Watchdog and the initial earthquake risk model for
MunichRe under the EC IST program.
Samuel holds a B.S. (cum
laude) in Computer Science and a B.S. in Hydrology and Civil
Engineering from the Technion Institute of Technology, Israel.
Alex Lupu - VP
Marketing and Business Development, Americas. Alex
is a Business Development and Marketing Executive with vast experience
in the technology and defense industries. He created and led sales
organizations in Latin America, Europe, Asia and USA. Prior to
co-founding Scio, Alex led marketing and sales at various high-tech
companies, including PowerLOC (Canada), and Zarak (Silicon Valley). Alex
won a competitive contract in Venezuela of more than $10M for Technology
for Communications International (Silicon Valley) doubling the
company’s revenue. At David Sarnoff Research Center (RCA labs) he
negotiated research contracts with large Asian companies. As the
Washington rep for Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI), Alex negotiated
joint ventures with major US defense contractors and led IAI’s
technology transfer to the civilian market, introducing medical and
environmental devices into the US market.
Alex holds a B.S. in Electronic Engineering
from the Ben Gurion University of the Negev, and a M.S. in
Electro-Optics from the Tel Aviv University, Israel.
Jim
Brander – Chief Architect. Jim is the visionary who
realized the power of software-based active-knowledge networks to solve
complex dynamic problems early on. He initiated and led the development
of what is today eCognition RAD. As founder and general manager of
Interactive Engineering Ltd. (Sydney, Australia), Jim has gained
extensive expertise in system design, business analysis, project
management and decision analysis systems. He has written numerous
articles and lectured worldwide. Prior to his dedication to building
knowledge into computer systems, Jim designed electronic equipment,
secured international patents, managed contracts and oversaw design and
construct projects at mines and processing plants.
Jim has a B.S. in Mechanical and
Electrical/Electronics Engineering and a M.S. in Systems Engineering
from the University of New South Wales in Sydney.
Seev Hirsch,
Ph.D. – Member, Board of Directors. Seev is emeritus
professor of the Leon Recanati Graduate School of Business, Tel Aviv
University, Israel. He has taught international business at the Graduate
Business School and published extensively in journals worldwide. Seev
has written and published several books. He has recently been
researching the economic aspects of the Arab-Israeli peace process. He
has also been a consultant on economics and export policy to the Iran
Planning Agency and the World Bank. He is a member and Fellow of the
European Academy of International Business.
Seev has a B.A in Economics
and Statistics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and an M.B.A and
Ph.D. from Harvard Business School.
Barbara Mirel,
Ph.D. – Member Advisory
Board. Barbara is a visiting associate professor and research investigator
in the School of Information, University of Michigan. She has held
positions as a cognitive engineer at the VHA National Center for Patient
Safety in Ann Arbor and senior manager of human factors at Lucent
Technologies in Illinois. At Lucent, she guided, directed and
coordinated all usability and user-interface activities for Visual
Insights, a Lucent venture, and worked closely with systems engineers in
interaction design and user-interface design. She also worked as a
consultant for the Information Architect/IT Department of Argonne
National Laboratories and for the New Product Division of Continental
Bank of Chicago. She has taught seminars to IBM information developers
and Caterpillar managers, project leaders and design engineers. Mirel is
the author of Interaction Design for Complex Problem Solving:
Designing Useful and Usable Software (Elsevier/Morgan Kaufmann,
2003).
Barbara has a B.A. from
University of Michigan, a M.A. from Eastern Michigan University and a
D.A. from University of Michigan.
Len Wanger -
Member Advisory Board. Len is the portfolio manager for the William
Harris Investors (WHI) Technology Fund. Previously, he was the director
of engineering at MDL Information Systems (a Reed Elsevier company), a
company engaged in drug discovery informatics. Len also serves as a
director at Vitalstream Holdings (NASDAQ: VSTH).
Len has a B.S. degree in computer science from the University of Iowa and a Masters of Architectural Science degree from Cornell University.
